My very first Blog....

Well here goes my first blog sent out of a need to vent and discuss the rights of all us ardent foodies out there in the world!
I am very passionate about good quality food and with the costs going up and up we really need to look at what and where we buy our food much more carefully.
I know that fresh is best but not always the easiest to get on a daily basis.
Try buying things that will last all week long and grow what you can even in pots if space is tight.
Yeah right Kathrin... grow it!?! Well okay I am not the best at this plus I am very spoiled to live in an area called the Bay of Plenty, where just a short walk or drive takes me to the actual growers and producer of fresh eggs, herbs, veges, fruits, berries, mushrooms, beef, lamb, wonderful chicken and hand made breads. Plus I run my own food stall at 2 of our local farmers' markets and buy right there every week for myself and the basics for most of my products that sell on my stand.
I find these goods last way longer that anything from supermarkets or even vege shops.... gee I wonder why?
Sorry about the sarcasm folks but really we need to start looking away from supermarkets and growing or buying local.
Only then we can start to take control over the quality of our food and have a say in the price of food too!
Find your local markets and talk to the people you know to find out who is growing what in your area especially in local allotment or community gardens, these are springing up all over the country.
Well I must finish for today as I'm off to make a 'Tri-colour" pesto & cheese spread for Saturday's market....
Will post photo & recipe tomorrow
